Ontario Chapter, NSDAR, was first organized June 27, 1903, under the leadership of Mrs. H.J. Brown who was a member of LeRay de Chaumont Chapter, NSDAR, in Watertown, New York. Mrs. Brown was elected the first regent of Ontario Chapter, NSDAR. The chapter received its charter on June 11, 1904.  The name comes from being located at the eastern shore of Lake Ontario. When the chapter became large, some members split off and formed the Rhadament Chapter, NSDAR, in the neighboring town of Sandy Creek. In recent years, the two chapters reunited. In the fall of 2024, the Kayendatsyona-Fort Oswego Chapter, NSDAR merged with Ontario Chapter, NSDAR. The Kayendatsyona Chapter, NSDAR was formed in 1904 and the Fort Oswego Chapter, NSDAR merged with Kayendatsyona Chapter, NSDAR in February 2006.

Patriotic programs with music, costumes and speakers including and involving other local clubs and organizations were the main focus over many years. There was considerable effort supporting soldiers during both World War I and World War II. Ontario Chapter, NSDAR, continues to contribute to patriotic endeavors, historical preservation, education and support of our active-duty military and veterans.

We hold chapter meetings six times a year in September, October, November, April, May and June.

Ontario Chapter, NSDAR, records are generously housed at the Half-Shire Historical Society in Richland, New York. We work closely with the Society as they have a wealth of genealogical records that can assist members and prospective members in researching their ancestors.
